SIAE: A Cutting-Edge Company

In recent months, a new electronic waste recycling plant has been fully operational at SIAE in Cornaredo, Italy. SIAE is a historic company in the recycling sector, a leader in Italy in the recovery of alkaline batteries and, more generally, in environmental services.

The Cornaredo production unit spans an area of over 30,000 m² and is equipped with modern and sophisticated safety systems, as well as advanced technologies for monitoring production cycles. The SIAE project aims to optimize operational efficiency through the introduction of cutting-edge technologies for the selection and recovery of materials, with the goal of maximizing recoverable fractions.

The plant has been designed to ensure highly automated recovery of metal fractions, using a vertical delamination mill and a separation system consisting of multiple densimetric tables and ballistic separators. The performance of the system is impressive, managing to recover even minimal flows of metallic materials, both ferrous and non-ferrous. It can be said with certainty that the plant, designed and built by Stokkermill Italy, represents a significant step forward in the recovery of materials from electronic waste recycling processes. This result reflects Stokkermill's constant commitment to research and development of innovative solutions that, over the years, have allowed the company to expand its range of proprietary technologies.

The new treatment lines that make up the SIAE plant:

• Complete recycling of electronic materials, with a refining line and multiple densimetric tables (link) for the recovery of metals such as copper, aluminum, and zorba, with a treatment capacity of 1,500 tons per year. The line includes a vertical delamination mill of the VM series (link) for the treatment of electronic materials.

• F-series primary four-shaft shredder (link), used for the reduction of plastics from the dismantling of TV screens and other WEEE.

• Controlled atmosphere dismantling line for LCD screens, complete with an absolute filtration system, to ensure safe and efficient treatment of this type of waste.

Another project under development concerns an innovative battery recognition and separation system designed to further improve treatment efficiency. This issue is well known in the recycling industry, as it currently requires significant manpower and generates high costs. The system under construction by Stokkermill Italy is based on the combined use of mechanical and optical recognition technologies, supported by artificial intelligence software. This approach will optimize the preliminary operations for the final treatment of batteries, reducing costs and improving the quality of the process.
